About this bundle

Building off of a basic understanding of stormwater, this course is designed to increase awareness and provide municipal field staff with the tools to detect different types of illicit discharges in the public storm sewer system. 

You will also become comfortable with how to response to a spill or illicit discharge and what supplies and BMPs are necessary to have an efficient and effective program. We cover the basics of spill response, stopping short of HAZWOPR certification or professional spill response. 

Demonstrations and mock spill response drills are performed and presented throughout the workshops.

What You Will Learn

In the Illicit Discharge and Detection (IDDE) and Spill Response Workshops you will learn the following:

Identify the different types of illicit discharges
Steps to prevent illicit discharge
Provide tools to identify report and investigate the sources of illicit discharges within a municipal systems
Elevate awareness of private, commercial and industrial activity that may impact the stormwater system within a jurisdiction
Learn about spill kit BMPs
Short spill response demonstrations
Increase confidence to take proper action in case of a spill
Obtain an understanding of how to identify a spill, implement low risk prevention and clean up measures, and buy time for appropriate cleanup responses
